Bug #: 227 (SQL Hotfix)

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SUMMARY

This article describes the following about this hotfix release:

  • The issues that are fixed by the hotfix package
  • The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
  • Whether you must restart the computer after you install the hotfix package
  • Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix package
  • Whether you must make any registry changes
  • The files that are contained in the hotfix package

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You apply one of the following hotfix builds to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services:

  • 1512
  • 1513
  • 1514
  • 1515
  • 1516
  • 1517

You use the HTTP protocol to connect to the instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. In this scenario, seven connections are created. However, you expected only one connection to be created. When you close the connection, and then reconnect to the instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, seven new connections are created. However, you expected the original connection to be reused. If you close the connection, and then reconnect to the instance of Analysis Services several times, many connections are created.

Note This problem does not occur in the release version of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a regression in hotfix build 1512.
