RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

  1. Show hidden files, folders, and extensions. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. On the View tab, select Show all files under Hidden Files, click to clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
  2. Back up the original Mswkscal.wcd file. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open the following folder in Microsoft Windows Explorer:

      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Works\

    2. Right-click the Mswkscal.wcd file, and then click Copy.

  3. Remove all versions of Microsoft Works. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.

    1. Insert the program installation disc for Works 8.0 (disc 1 of Works Suite) in to the CD drive or DVD drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the disc to prevent the Setup program from starting automatically.

You may find more than one Works item listed in the Windows Installer Clean Up program. Remove all Works items.
