INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to move your AutoCorrect entries from a computer that is running Microsoft Word 97 to a computer that is running Microsoft Word 2000 or a later version of Microsoft Word.

MORE INFORMATION

AutoCorrect entries are stored in .acl files. To move your AutoCorrect entries from a computer that is running Word 97 to a computer that is running Word 2000 or a later version of Word, follow these steps:

  1. On the computer that is running Word 97, open the following folder in Windows Explorer:

    C:\Document and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Office

  2. Make a copy of the .acl file that you want to move to Word 2000 or a later version of Word. For example, to move the AutoCorrect entries for the English (US) language, copy the Mso1033.acl file to a disk or to a network location.
  3. On the computer that is running Word 2000 or a later version of Word, use Windows Explorer to copy the .acl file from the disk or network location to the following folder:

    C:\Document and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Office

  4. If you are prompted to replace the .acl file, click Yes.

Note AutoCorrect entries that you have stored in the .acl file on the computer that is running Word 2000 or a later version of Word will be lost. If you want to keep the AutoCorrect entries that are in the current .acl file on the computer that is running Word 2000 or a later version of Word, click No. Then back up the AutoCorrect entries. After you have moved the .acl file that you copied in step 2 to the computer that is running Word 2000 or a later version of Word, you can restore the AutoCorrect entries that you backed up. For more information about how to back up and restore AutoCorrect entries, see the "References" section.

Note Some entries that you may want to move from the computer that is running Word 97 to the computer that is running Word 2000 or a later version of Word may be AutoText entries. AutoText entries are stored in the Normal.dot file.
