You receive an error message when you install Accounting Professional, Accounting Express, or Small Business Accounting 2006

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office Accounting Professional, Microsoft Office Accounting Express, or Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, you may receive one of the following error messages.

Error message 1


Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) is canceling.

Error message 2


SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) is canceling.

Error message 3


Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a previous installation of Accounting Professional, Accounting Express, or Small Business Accounting is still in progress.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Use this method if you receive one of the following error messages:

Error message 1


Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) is canceling.

Error message 2


SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) is canceling.

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, and then click Task Manager.
  2. Use the appropriate method:
    • If you are using Small Business Accounting 2006, click Microsoft Small Business Accounting on the Applications tab, and then click End Task.
    • If you are using Accounting Professional, click Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007 or Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2008 on the Applications tab, and then click End Task.
    • If you are using Accounting Express, click Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007 or Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2008 on the Applications tab, and then click End Task.
  3. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  4. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, use the appropriate method:
    • If you are using Small Business Accounting, click Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 or Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 CD2, and then click Remove.
    • If you are using Accounting Professional or Accounting Express, click Microsoft Office Accounting 2007 or Microsoft Office Accounting 2008, and then click Remove.

    Note You may receive the following error message:

    Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one.

    If you receive this message, click Cancel, and then use method 2 to resolve this problem. If you do not receive this message, go to step 5.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Install Accounting Professional, Accounting Express, or Small Business Accounting from the installation CD.

Method 2

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Use this method if you receive the following error message:

Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK to start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and delete the following subkey in the registry:


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress

  1. Close all windows, and then restart the computer.
  2. Install Accounting Professional, Accounting Express, or Small Business Accounting from the installation CD.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
