SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. A Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer is configured as a DCOM server. You install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on this computer. However, when you then run DCOM programs on this computer, the DCOM programs do not work. You also receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Application popup: DDE Server Window: name - Application Error: ErrorMessage.

Additionally, the following event is logged in the System log: Source: Service Control Manager Type: Error Event ID: 7031 Description: DCOM Server Process Launcher Service Terminated Unexpectedly.
