SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft COM+ 1.0, an exception error may cause the PingThread method to stop prematurely. When the PingThread method stops prematurely, the COM+ application may stop responding (hang).

An Error event that is similar to the following is logged in the event log: Event Type: Error
Event Source: COM+
Event Category: SVC
Event ID: 4097
Description:
The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal state. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error. Error in .\act.cpp(287), hr = 80004005: CActivity: Failed in call to CoGetApartmentID.


CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a code defect in the COM+ Services Type Library (Comsvcs.dll).

RESOLUTION
