APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Project Web Access
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services

SYMPTOMS

When you enter the required information on the Connect to SharePoint Server Web page in Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 and then click Save Changes, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:

VBScript: Microsoft Office Project Web Access 2003
There are no site templates installed on the specified server running Windows SharePoint Services. Verify that the Web server is properly extended with Windows SharePoint Services.

Additionally, when you try to access the root directory of the SharePoint Web site, you find that the SharePoint Web site does not exist. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database.

If you run the Windows SharePoint Services Configuration Wizard against the SharePoint Web site, the process is completed successfully. However, you receive the same error messages.

Note To access the Connect to SharePoint Server Web page, open Microsoft Project Web Access, click Admin, and then click Manage Windows SharePoint Services.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Windows SharePoint Services Web site is not configured in a way that enables Project Server to function correctly with Windows SharePoint Services.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Create the root Web site in Windows SharePoint Services. Then, verify that the Project Workspace template is listed under this Web site. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint Central Administration.
    2. Click Create a top-level Web site.
    3. Click Create site at this URL. In the URL path box, click (root).
    4. Under Site Collection Owner, type User_Name in the User name box. Type e-mail address in the e-mail address box.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Click the URL of the Web site that you just created. A Web page appears that lets you select a template.
    7. Verify that the Project Workspace template is included in the Template list. If the Project Workspace template is included, go to step 3. If the Project Workspace template is not included, go to step 2.
  2. Reinstall Project Server template and files. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. On the Project Server installation CD, run Setup.exe.
    2. Click Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.
    3. Click Windows SharePoint Services Configuration Wizard.
    4. Click Configure additional Windows SharePoint Services Web sites for Microsoft Office Project Server 2003.
    5. Click Next.
    6. Click Default Web Site, and then click Next.
    7. Click OK in the warning box, and then wait for the Project Server files to be copied.
    8. Click Finish.
  3. Configure the Connect to SharePoint Server Web page. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Access the Connect to SharePoint Server Web page.
    2. Type the required information in the appropriate boxes.
    3. Click Save Changes. You will receive a message that confirms that the settings are saved.
