Xbox 360: You receive the “Attempting to Use Older Software” error message

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect an Xbox 360 console to a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center-based computer, you receive the following error message:

Attempting to Use Older Software

The software used to connect to a Windows Media Center is an older version than you’ve previously sued. Are you sure you want to run an older version of the software?

[Don’t use older software]
[Connect using older software]

[A – Accept]
[X – Cancel]

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you try to use an earlier version of the Media Center Extender software to connect an Xbox 360 console to a Windows XP Media Center-based computer.

THINGS TO TRY

1. Download the latest version of the Media Center Extender software, and then install the software on the computer. To download the Media Center Extender software, visit the following Web site:

   http://www.xbox.com/pcsetup
