Xbox 360: You receive the “The destination device was the same as the current device” error message

SYMPTOMS

When you try to transfer an item from one device (source) to another device (destination), you receive the following error message:

The destination device was the same as the current device.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the name of the destination device is the same as the name of the source device.

THINGS TO TRY

1. If you want to transfer items between two devices that have the same name, use an intermediary storage device that has a different name. For example, if you want to transfer an item from one Xbox 360 Memory Unit to another memory unit that has the same name, transfer the item from the memory unit to the hard drive. Then, transfer the item from the hard drive to the second memory unit.
