SYMPTOMS

You notice many dehydrated service instances of the HTTP adapter or of the SOAP adapter when you run a query in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Health and Activity Tracking (HAT).

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next BizTalk Server 2004 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. Warning You cannot roll back this hotfix from the BizTalk Server environment. Therefore, make sure that you fully test this hotfix in a test environment before you apply this hotfix to a production environment. Do not try to use Add or Remove Programs to remove this hotfix because this does not roll back the database changes, and leaves the BizTalk Server environment in an inconsistent state.

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.

The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, terminate the dehydrated service instances manually in HAT.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this hotfix, the dehydrated service instances are no longer created. However, the existing dehydrated service instances are not terminated automatically. You must terminate the existing dehydrated service instances manually.

If you receive an "Error 1921. Service Windows Management Instrumentation (WinMgmt) could not be stopped" error message when you apply this hotfix, you can stop the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service before you run the hotfix. The hotfix will resume the service when the installation is successful.
