SYMPTOMS

After you migrate mailboxes from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, you may intermittently experience all the following symptoms:

  • When a user whose mailbox was migrated from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003 sends e-mail messages to recipients whose mailboxes are hosted on the same server that is running Exchange Server 2003, the messages are not delivered. Instead, these messages remain in the Exchange Server 2003 local delivery queue. Eventually, these messages time out, and the sender receives a non-delivery report (NDR) message.
  • If you view the message in the local delivery queue by using Exchange System Manager, you notice that the message has a status of Retry.
  • If the user tries to resend the nondelivered message from the e-mail client program, the following event appears in the Application log on the Exchange Server 2003 server:

    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: MSExchangeTransport
    Event Category: Exchange Store Driver
