SYMPTOMS

When you try to play a DVD movie on your Xbox 360 console, the movie does not play or does not play correctly.

CAUSE

This issue may occur for a variety of different reasons.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Make sure that the DVD region is in the same region as the Xbox 360 console. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

907620 Xbox 360: You receive an error message when you try to view a DVD movie by using the Xbox 360 console

  2. Make sure that the DVD disc is clean and free of scratches and blemishes. To do this, hold the disc by the edges without touching the surface with your fingers. Clean the disc by using a soft cloth, lightly wiping from the center outwards. Do not use solvents or chemicals to clean the disc.
  3. Connect the Xbox 360 console to Xbox Live to obtain the latest system updates.
  4. Try to play the DVD in a different DVD player or Xbox 360 console to determine whether the disc is defective.
  5. If the DVD plays successfully in a different player, try to play several other DVD movies on your Xbox 360 console. If the same symptom occurs, your Xbox 360 console may have to be repaired. Contact Xbox Customer Service. For contact information, visit:
  6. If the symptoms only occur with one specific DVD movie, there may be a problem with the DVD encoding, or a physical problem with the disc. Contact the DVD movie publisher.
