You cannot start the Live Communications Server 2005 MMC on specific computers in your organization

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Service Pack 1, when used with:
    • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
    • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Standard Edition




SYMPTOMS

When you try to start the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Microsoft Management Console (MMC) on specific computers, the MMC does not start. However, you can successfully start the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server MMC from other computers. Therefore, you cannot manage Live Communications Server 2005 from specific computers in your organization.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the computer from which you try to start the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 MMC cannot contact the computer that holds the PDC Emulator operations master role in the root domain of your Active Directory directory service forest.

Note Operations master roles are also known as flexible single master operations or FSMO roles.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the software update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
