After you change the quota values in a template in Windows SharePoint Services, the quota values in the existing sites do not change

Article ID: 905230

Article Last Modified on 10/26/2005

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, you can change quota values in a template. However, the new quota values apply only to new top-level Web sites that are created by using the quota template. Windows SharePoint Services does not apply the changed quota values to existing sites unless you use the object model to update the quota values in the database.

CAUSE

When the site is created, it pulls the information from the template and is unaware of any template changes.

RESOLUTION

To increase the quota value of an existing site, follow these steps.

For SharePoint Portal Server 2003

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to SharePoint Portal Server, and then click SharePoint Central Administration.
  2. On the SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration for SiteName page, click Configure site quotas and locks from the Virtual Server List page in the Portal Sites and Virtual Server Configuration section.
  3. On the Manage Quotas and Locks page, click Manager site collection quotas and locks in the Manager Quotas section.
  4. On the Manage Site Collection Quotas and Locks page, type the URL for an existing site, and then click View Data.
  5. Click the name of the modified template in the Current quota template list.
  6. Click OK.

For Windows SharePoint Services

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint Central Administration.
  2. Click Manage quotas and locks.
  3. Click Manage site collection quotas and locks.
  4. Type the URL of the site collection for which you have to update the quota, and then click View Data.
  5. Under Site Quota Information, reselect the quota that you originally applied and that has since been amended.
  6. Click OK.

To verify that the changes were made, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the site collection for which you reapplied the quota.
  2. Click Site Settings.
  3. Click Go to site administration.
  4. Click View site collection usage summary. The Maximum storage allowed should now reflect the correct storage for the template as you previously amended it.
