APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows CE Platform Builder 3.0
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You create an application by using Microsoft Windows CE Platform Builder 3.0. The application calls the FindWindow API function together with a specified window name. In this scenario, the FindWindow function may not return, and the application thread may stop responding (hang). Additionally, if you use the win command of the CE Shell (CESH) utility in the Windows CE Platform Builder target control window, the operation may not be completed.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Oleaut32.dll library creates a hidden window that does not have an associated message loop. This problem only occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The application uses the VarBstrFromR8 function. The VarBstrFromR8 function is an API conversion function that is included in the Oleaut32.dll library.
- The application does not have a message loop that dispatches messages to the hidden Oleaut32.dll window.
If another application calls the FindWindow API function or a related API, the Graphics, Windowing, and Events Subsystem (GWES) may be blocked.
