SYMPTOMS
On a domain controller that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, when you try to use the LsaLookupNames function to retrieve a security identifier (SID) that corresponds to a user name or to a group name, the operation may take a very long time to finish.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if there are many trusts between domains on the network, and you do not specify a domain name. Or, this problem may occur when one or more domains are unresponsive.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
Install this hotfix on every Windows 2000-based domain controller in the domain where you use the LsaLookupNames function.
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
