SYMPTOMS

After you send an e-mail message from Microsoft Business Solutions CRM 1.2, you receive non-delivery reports (NDRs) from some recipients.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • The e-mail messaging systems of the recipients use junk mail filters.
  • The junk mail filters reject e-mail messages based on the amount of white space in the subject of the e-mail message.
  • The amount of white space in the subject of the e-mail message that you sent from Microsoft CRM 1.2 exceeds the amount of white space that the junk mail filters allow.

Microsoft CRM 1.2 calculates the amount of white space to include in the subject of the outgoing e-mail message. In certain scenarios, the amount of white space may exceed the amount of white space that the junk mail filters allow.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

904435 Update Rollup 2 is available for Microsoft CRM 1.2

After you install the update, you can configure the amount of white space that is included in the subject of e-mail messages. To do this follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type EmailTokenSpaces, and then press ENTER.
  5. Double-click EmailTokenSpaces, type a number between 1 and 72 in the Value data box, and then click OK.

The number that you type represents the number of spaces that are added to the subject in the Subject box of the outgoing e-mail message.
  6. Exit Registry Editor.
  7. Restart Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). To do this, click Start, click Run, type iisreset, and then click OK.
