SYMPTOMS
When you use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 (DB2OLEDB) in Host Integration Server 2004 to connect to an IBM DB2 database that is running on an IBM AIX 64-bit system, the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 returns an error message that resembles the following:
Additionally, you may receive a similar error message when you create packages on the IBM AIX 64-bit system.
CAUSE
An IBM DB2 database that is running on an IBM AIX 64-bit system returns the following server class string during the Exchange Server Attributes negotiation:
QDB2/AIX64
The problem that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section occurs because the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 does not recognize the "QDB2/AIX64" server class string.
Additionally, the following behavior occurs when you create packages on an IBM AIX 64-bit system:
- The provides receives the "QDB2/AIX64" server class string.
- The provider sends the AIX system statement.
However, the AIX system statement is not needed on UDB 8. UDB 8 includes IBM AIX 8.0 64-bit. Therefore, you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. This error message indicates that an invalid statement is being bound to the package.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.
