SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Identity Integration Server 2003 (MIIS 2003), you may receive one of the following error messages when you try to connect to the Active Directory directory service forest:
Error message 1
Error message 2
CAUSE
By default, a domain member cannot use the Domain Name System (DNS) networking protocol to resolve to a domain controller that is located in a different forest. A domain member cannot do this when the domain controller has a single-label DNS name.
RESOLUTION
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To resolve this problem, add the following REG_DWORD registry entry, and then set the value to 1:
AllowSingleLabelDnsDomain
To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type AllowSingleLabelDnsDomain, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click AllowSingleLabelDnsDomain, and then click Modify.
- In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
- On the File menu, click Exit.
