This article describes the number of contacts that you can configure in Microsoft Windows Messenger when you are connected to Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003 or to Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005.

Live Communications Server 2003

Live Communications Server 2003 has a limit of 150 contacts and a limit of 300 subscribers or Access Control List (ACL) entries per user. When you configure Windows Messenger to monitor a user's presence information, this user becomes a contact. If a user configures Windows Messenger to monitor your presence information, this user becomes a subscriber.

Live Communications Server 2005

Live Communications Server 2005 increases the supported number of contacts to a limit of 1000 contacts per user. You can adjust this limit in the properties of the Live Communications Server 2005 pool object. To view this setting, follow these steps:

1. Start the Live Communications Server 2005 Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in.
2. Expand the forest, expand Domains, expand your domain, Expand Live Communications servers and pools, right-click your pool, and then click Properties.
3. Click the General tab, and then view the number that appears next to Maximum contacts per user.

Note Windows Messenger 5.1 and Windows Messenger 5.0 support only 150 contacts. Windows Messenger may not function correctly if you configure Live Communications Server to have a limit of more than 150 contacts per user.
