Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2000 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2000 fix release.

SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft SQL Server 2000, when you use a CASE function that contains a subquery for the THEN expression, the subquery is evaluated even if the condition in the WHEN expression is false.
For example, the WHEN expression checks if a field is NUMERIC in the following query, and the subquery in the THEN expression converts this field to an INT:
SELECT * FROM table1 T1
WHERE CASE WHEN isnumeric(T1.varcharColumn)=1
THEN CASE WHEN exists(SELECT * FROM table1 S1 WHERE cast(T1.varcharColumn as int) = S1.numericColumn)
THEN 0
ELSE 1
END
ELSE 2
END=1
When you run the query, you receive the following error message:
Note In this example, when the field is not NUMERIC, the THEN expression should not be evaluated.
