SYMPTOMS

When you use a shortcut to start the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002 IDE from a Microsoft Windows-based Installer, you see the Visual Studio .NET 2002 IDE splash screen. Then, a Windows Installer dialog box may appear with the following message:

"Preparing to install..."

After the Windows Installer dialog box closes, the Visual Studio .NET 2002 IDE splash screen may disappear, and Visual Studio .NET 2002 IDE may not start.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following registry key is missing or has become corrupted:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration


RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods, depending on which application your computer is running.

Method 1: Microsoft Visual Basic Standard .NET 2002

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration\D0620409-7D65-11D5- A54F-0090278A1BB8

  3. In the right pane, right-click ProductID, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type 55501-640-2694077-18071, and then click OK.
  5. In the right pane, right-click DigitalProductID, and then click Modify.
  6.   7. Quit Registry Editor.

Method 2: Microsoft Visual Studio Professional .NET 2002

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration\D0610409-7D65-11D5- A54F-0090278A1BB8

  3. In the right pane, right-click ProductID, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type 55537-640-0000007-18633, and then click OK.
  5. In the right pane, right-click DigitalProductID, and then click Modify.
  6.   7. Quit Registry Editor.

  6.
