- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMS
A program (Program B) may not run successfully on a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Advanced Client computer if the following conditions are true:
- Program B depends on Program A. Program A has previously been advertised and runs independently on the same SMS 2003 Advanced Client computer.
- You enable the Download program from distribution point setting on the Advanced Client tab in the
Advertisement_Name
Advertisement Properties dialog box of the package that contains Program B.
For a more detailed example, see the "More Information" section.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the SoftwareDistribution policy can be unintentionally set not to rerun a program that has previously been executed. (The SoftwareDistribution policy is used to download and to run programs.) A program may not run when the program depends on another program that has previously run.

MORE INFORMATION
Example
- Advertisement 1 specifies that Program A should run on a SMS 2003 Advanced Client computer.
- Program A runs when Advertisement 1 is received.
- Advertisement 2 specifies that Program B depends upon Program A. The properties of Advertisement 2 specify that SMS 2003 Advanced Client computers should download programs from the distribution point.
- When Advertisement 2 is received on the SMS 2003 Advanced Client computer, Advertisement 2 may determine that Program A has already run successfully. Therefore, Advertisement 2 does not trigger Program A to rerun. Therefore, Program B does not run.
