SYMPTOMS
On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, some applications may encounter memory leak issues when querying performance counters by using Performance Data Helper library (Pdh.dll). This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The application queries several performance counters
- The application calls pdhCloseQuery without calling PdhRemoveCounter first for each counter
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the pdhCloseQuery() function cannot close all handles in some specific conditions. Additionally, the pdhCloseQuery() function does not free all the memory that is associated with the query.
