INTRODUCTION
This article describes the Microsoft Outlook 2002 issue that is fixed in the Outlook 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated March 25, 2005.

The issue that the hotfix package fixes
This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
- When you examine the digital certificate of a signed e-mail message that you received in Outlook 2002, the e-mail message may incorrectly show that you signed the e-mail message. This issue may occur in the following scenario:
- You view the signed e-mail message in the preview pane.
- The signed e-mail message contains an attached Microsoft Word document. You open the attached Word document from the preview pane.
- You switch to Outlook 2002 while the Word document is open, and then you click another e-mail message to view it in the preview pane.
- You click the signed e-mail message that contains the attached Word document to view the e-mail message in the preview pane.

Prerequisites
- The optimized version of this hotfix is a post-Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office XP SP3 installed.

- The optimized version of this hotfix requires Microsoft Windows Installer version 2.0 or a later version.

- The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). However, we have tested this fix on Office XP SP3 more extensively than we have on Office XP SP2. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office XP SP2, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.
Restart information
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
