FIX: The SNA LU 6.2 Resync TP service stops responding in Host Integration Server 2004

Article ID: 896007

Article Last Modified on 12/4/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004, some services stop responding. For example, the SNA LU 6.2 Resync TP service stops responding. Additionally, when you configure a remote environment in the Transaction Integrator Manager, you cannot enumerate the available logical units (LUs).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of timing issues between the Host Integration Server 2004 Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider and the WMI service. A WMI call is received after the WMI provider notifies the WMI service that the WMI provider is exiting. However, this WMI call is received before the WMI provider is released from memory. This timing causes the WMI provider to create an instance of itself that causes a deadlock in the WMI service.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.
