256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

SYMPTOMS

When you download transactions into your Microsoft Money account register, all the downloaded transactions are automatically marked as reconciled with the letter "R".

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the Automatic Reconciling feature in Money is turned on. Typically, when this behavior occurs, a registry entry has not been changed to turn off the automatic reconciliation of transactions. This behavior occurs even though you have clicked to clear the Automatically mark accepted transactions as reconciled check box in the Money Options/Settings dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use the following methods.

Method 1: Enable and then disable the Automatic Reconciling feature

  1. Start Money.
  2. On the File menu, click Back Up to back up the current data file to your hard disk.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Settings.

Note In Microsoft Money 2004, click Options on the Tools menu.

  1. Click the Online Services tab or the Online Services link depending on the version of Money that you are using.
  2. Click to select the following check boxes:
    • Automatically mark accepted transactions as reconciled.
    • Automatically accept all downloaded transactions from banking statements.
  3. Click OK, and then quit Money.
  4. Start Money.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4.
  6. Click to clear the following check boxes:
    • Automatically mark accepted transactions as reconciled.
    • Automatically accept all downloaded transactions from banking statements.
  7. Click OK.

Test to determine whether downloaded transactions are still automatically marked as reconciled with the letter "R", if they are, proceed to Method 2.

Method 2: Turn off automated balancing

  1. Start Money.
  2. Download your online bank statements.
  3. Open the account register for the account that you downloaded in step 2.
  4. At the top of the register, click the drop down arrow for the Change Register View list.
  5. Make sure that there is a dot next to All transactions.
  6. In the left pane, click Automated balancing or Perform automated balancing, depending on your version of Money.

Note You will not see the Automated balancing option unless you have downloaded your statement and you currently have transactions to read.

  1. Click to clear the following check boxes:
    • Don't ask me this again
    • Automatically balance my account without prompting when possible
  2. Click No.

Test to determine whether downloaded transactions are still automatically marked as reconciled with the letter "R" if they are, proceed to Method 3.

Method 3: Change registry settings

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.Alter the Registry setting for AutoReconciliation. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry for your version of Money:
    Microsoft Money 2007

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money\16.0\MOFAutoReconcile

    Microsoft Money 2006

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money\15.0\MOFAutoReconcile

    Microsoft Money 2005'

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money\14.0\MOFAutoReconcile

    Money 2004

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money\12.0\MOFAutoReconcile

  3. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  4. Type 0, and then press ENTER.
  5. Quit Registry Editor.

If the above methods did not resolve your issue, it is possible that your Money data file is damaged. For more information about resolving file damage, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
