INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine issues that are fixed in the Jet 4.0 Database Engine post-837001 hotfix package that is dated April 12, 2005.

Issues that the hotfix fixes

This hotfix fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • In a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server environment, when you enter data into a Microsoft Office Access application that contains a form and a subform, you receive messages that resemble the following:

The Microsoft Jet Database Engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time.

When this problem occurs, #Error appears on your forms instead of the actual data.
  • When you run a complex query, you receive the following error message, and Access exits:

Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Access. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.

When you view the data that the error report contains, you see a list that includes information about some of the most common error signatures. This information varies depending on the version of Access that you use as the front end for the Jet 4.0 database engine. The list resembles the following:

Application Name Application Version Module Name Module Version Offset
    msaccess.exe 11.0.6355.0 msjet40.dll 4.0.8618.0 000e3f45
    msaccess.exe 10.0.6501.0 msjet40.dll 4.0.8618.0 000e3f45
  • On a continuous form that is bound to a linked Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) data source, data is not correctly refreshed for every sixth record.
  • In the following scenario, a query yields the wrong results:
    • You run a query that includes a local Jet table and linked SQL Server tables.
    • The SQL Server tables are joined by using GUID fields.
    • One of the tables has only a few rows.
    • The other table has many rows.
  • In the following scenario, you receive an error message:
    • In Microsoft Office Excel, you import data from an Access pass-through query.
    • The query uses a back-end Oracle table that includes a Number field.

The error message resembles the following:

[Microsoft][OBDC Microsoft Access Driver] Reserved Error (|); there is no message for this error

  • When you switch between SQL View and Design View in queries, you receive the following error message, and Access exits:

Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Access. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.

When you view the data that the error report contains, you see a list that includes information about some of the most common error signatures. This information varies depending on the version of Access that you use as the front end for the Jet 4.0 database engine. The list resembles the following:

Application Name Application Version Module Name Module Version Offset
    msaccess.exe 11.0.5614.0 ntdll.dll 5.1.2600.2096 0001289d
