You receive an error message in SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services after you install security update MS05-004 for the .NET Framework 1.1

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services, when you try to open any Properties page, you may receive the following error message:

Unable to generate a temporary class
(result=1).
error CS1514: { expected
error CS1001: Identifier expected
error CS1031: Type expected
error CS1519: Invalid token '{' in class, struct, or interface member
declaration
error CS1514: { expected
error CS1001: Identifier expected
error CS1031: Type expected
error CS1519: Invalid token '{' in class, struct, or interface member
declaration

You receive this error message after you install the Microsoft ASP.NET Security Update for the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 that is described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-004. For additional information about this security update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the ASP.NET Security Update for the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
    2. In the Currently installed programs list, click OperatingSystem Hotfix - KB886904.

      Note OperatingSystem is the operating system that you are running.
    3. Click Change/Remove.

      Note Depending on your operating system, you may have to click Remove.
    4. Follow the instructions to remove the hotfix.
    Note Your system will be vulnerable after you follow these steps.
  2. Install the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  3. Reapply Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-004 by installing the ASP.NET Security Update for the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1. For additional information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  4. In Control Panel, open Add/Remove Programs. OperatingSystem Hotfix - KB886903 appears in the Currently Installed Programs list.
