SYMPTOMS

When a program uses Microsoft Collaboration Data Objects for Exchange Management (CDOEXM) to query Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 properties, you may experience memory leaks in the Cdoexm.dll file.

Additionally, when you use the Performance utility to view the Private Bytes counter for the process that uses CDOEXM, you may notice that the memory usage for the process continues to increase.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To use the Performance utility to monitor the Process\Private Bytes performance counters of the program that uses CDOEXM, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type perfmon in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click Add.
  3. In the Performance Object list, click Process.
  4. In the Select counters from the list list, click Private Bytes, and then click the process of the program hat uses CDOEXM in the Select instances from list.
  5. Click Add, and then click Close.
