SYMPTOMS

When you submit a large EDI message to the Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 Base EDI Adapter, the BizTalk Server Base EDI Adapter does not process the message. Additionally, the following Error event is logged in the Application event log: Event Type: Error

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you submit an EDI document that has more than 999,999 segments. The BizTalk Server 2004 Base EDI Adapter has a limitation where it cannot process a document that has more than 999,999 segments.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix. However, you must restart the BizTalk Base EDI service to apply the changes after you install and configure this hotfix. For more information, see the "Hotfix installation information" section.

Hotfix installation information

To apply this hotfix, follow these steps:

  1. Run the hotfix package to install the hotfix files.
  2. Restart the BizTalk Base EDI service.
  3. Copy the Genins.exe file to the EDI\Subsystem folder.
  4. Make sure that the BizTalk service is running and that the BizTalk Base EDI service is running.
  5. At a command prompt, type the following command:

    COMPEIF.EXE

  6. Restart the BizTalk Base EDI service.

After you apply this hotfix, the Base EDI Adapter can process a message that has a maximum of 9,999,999,999 segments.
