APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario.

  • You have installed FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft on a Microsoft Windows-based computer.
  • You use Microsoft SharePoint Administrator to open administration Web pages for a Web site in a Web browser.

In the current scenario, when you open the administration Web pages, the contents of the administration Web pages may appear as a combination of lines, plain text, and binary data instead of administration hyperlinks. Additionally, you may notice that the affected Web pages contain the following text entry:

This program cannot be run in DOS mode.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the _vti_binWeb site does not have the Scripts and Executables permission.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, assign the Scripts and Executables permission to the _vti_bin Web site. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. To do this, follow the steps for your version of IIS:
    • For IIS 4.0:
      1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack.
      2. Click Microsoft Internet Information Server.
      3. Click Internet Service Manager.
    • For IIS 5.0: Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
    • For IIS 6.0: Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. Expand the server name, and then expand the Web site that you want to configure.
  3. Right-click the _vti_binWeb site, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Virtual Directory tab, click Scripts and Executables in the Execute permissions list, and then click OK.
  5. Quit Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
