STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply the update, Managed Provider for DB2 supports Char data types in a parameterized query. The behavior of Char data types depends on the value of the ParameterDirection property as follows:

ParameterDirection.Input

You can use the Char data type against a CHAR data type or against a VARCHAR DB2 data type. When you use the Char data type like this, a single character is sent to the DB2 system.

ParameterDirection.InputOutput/Output

You can use the Char data type if you send a single character. However, you can only expect to have the parameter value remain a Char data type if the following conditions are true:

  • The Parameter.Value DB2 value entry was previously set to a type of Char. For example, the Input value or the InputOutput value is a Char type. Or, for an Output parameter, a dummy Char value is used.
  • The output parameter value is only one character long.

If the previous conditions are not true, the parameter value is a string.
