SUMMARY

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Excel 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package for Excel 2002. This article describes the following information about the hotfix package:

INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Excel 2002 issues that are fixed in the Excel 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated December 16, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • When you try to programmatically change the major gridlines of an Excel 2002 chart, the gridlines are not changed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

    Run-time error '1004': Select method of Gridlines class failed.

    This problem may occur when both the following conditions are true:

    • The Excel chart was first created as a combination line-column chart.
    • You change the columns in the chart to lines.
  • Consider the following scenario:

    1. You copy data from a workbook that is open in Excel 2002 on a client computer.
    2. You try to copy the data to a workbook that is open in Excel 2002 in a Citrix session.

    The data is not pasted. Additionally, Excel 2002 unexpectedly quits. You receive the following error message:

    Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to the following error signature:

  • When you start the Solver add-in without the /f (on demand) option, Excel may unexpectedly quit. You receive the following error message:

    Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to one of the following error signatures:

    Additionally, when you programmatically add a new worksheet to an Excel object that is contained in an Excel window that is not currently the active window, the worksheet is not added. You receive the following error message:

    The server threw an exception. (0x80010105)

Prerequisites

  • The optimized version of this hotfix is an Office XP post-Service Pack 3 (SP3) hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office XP SP3 installed.

  • The optimized version of this hotfix requires Microsoft Windows Installer version 2.0 or a later version of Windows Installer.

  • The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). However, we have tested this fix on Office XP SP3 more extensively than we have on Office XP SP2. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office XP SP2, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend it.
