SYMPTOMS

After you install the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, the captions of the GroupBox controls in your Windows Forms application may be truncated and may appear in the wrong font. This problem occurs only if the Windows XP Style setting is selected in the Display Properties dialog box in Microsoft Windows XP.

Note By default, the Windows XP Style setting is selected for the appearance of windows and buttons in Windows XP.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a bug in the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.

RESOLUTION

Software update information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next the .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps to change the Windows and buttons setting in the Display Properties dialog box:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type desk.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Appearance tab.
  3. In the Windows and buttons list, click a selection that is different from Windows XP Style.
  4. Click OK.
