A blank page prints from Word X for Mac when you try to cancel a print job

SYMPTOMS

When you try to print a Microsoft Word X for Mac document, you receive the following message:


The margins of section section_number are set outside the printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?

If you click No in the message, your printer prints a blank page.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • One or more sections of your Word X for Mac document have margins that are outside the printable area of the page.
  • You clicked Ignore when you received the following message:

    One or more margins are set outside the printable area of the page. Choose the Fix button to increase the appropriate margins.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must set the margins for each section of your Word X for Mac document within the printable area of the page. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
  2. In the Settings list, click Microsoft Word.
  3. Click Margins.
  4. Adjust the margins for the section so that they are within the printable area of the page.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each section of your Word X for Mac document.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
