Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package
This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
When you open or make changes to a document that contains Smart Tags or a Smart Document solution in Word 2003, Word 2003 may stop responding. Additionally, Word 2003 may quit unexpectedly, and you receive the following error message:
When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to the following:

This problem may occur if there is a large amount of text in an XML tag in the document, and there is a control such as an ActiveX control in the Smart Document task pane that is associated with the XML tag.
If you perform all the following actions in the order that they are listed in a Word 2003 document that is protected for forms, Word 2003 may stop responding:
- You type text in a form field.
- You unprotect the forms document.
- You type text in a non-form field area of the forms document.
- You type text that causes the AutoCorrect functionality of Word 2003 to correct your typing.
Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

- The optimized version of this hotfix is a post-Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office 2003 SP1 installed.

- The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with SP1 installed or without SP1 installed. However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on Office 2003 with SP1 than we have on Office 2003 without SP1. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 without SP1, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.
