The splash screen that appears at startup does not display the complete Windows XP version information

Article ID: 886930

Article Last Modified on 1/20/2005

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002

SUMMARY

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), and then you restart your computer, the Windows XP splash screen that appears does not display the complete version information about your operating system. For example, the splash screen may only display Microsoft Windows XP instead of any of the following:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

This behavior is by design. All editions of Windows XP use the same splash screen.
