SYMPTOMS

When you send an e-mail message that has the Content-Transfer-Encoding value set to a value that is not valid, such as "plain," the following Error event is logged in the Application log: Event ID: 4786
Source: COM+
Type: Error
Description:
The system has called a custom component and that component has failed and generated an exception. This indicates a problem with the custom component. Notify the developer of this component that a failure has occurred and provide them with the information below.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a Content-Transfer-Encoding value that is not valid and that is in a message causes an exception to be thrown in the CDOEX.dll file. Additionally, the exception is not handled. Therefore, the COM+ fail-fast process stops the event sink application and then logs event ID 4786. The event sink will not run until you restart the sink in the COM+ Component Manager snap-in.
