SYMPTOMS
If the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components are installed on your computer when you try to update your Microsoft Office 2003 programs from the Microsoft Office Update Web site or from the Microsoft Download Center, you receive the following error message:
If you try to install the update from the Office Update Web site, you also receive the following message in addition to the error message:
If you try to install the update from the Microsoft Download Center, you also receive the following message in addition to the error message:
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when one of the following conditions is true:
- The Office 2003 Web Components source files are missing in the following folder on your computer:
C:\MSOCache\All Users\90A40409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9
- The MSOCache folder has been deleted from your computer.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods depending on your situation.
Method 1: If you installed the Office 2003 Web Components from the Microsoft Download Center
If you installed the Office 2003 Web Components from the Microsoft Download Center, you cannot provide the original installation source. To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
- Remove the Office 2003 Web Components. To do this, follow these steps:
- Quit your Office 2003 programs.
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Office 2003, and then click Change.
- Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
- Click to select the Choose advanced customization of applications check box, and then click Next.
- Expland Office Shared Features.
- Click the icon for Office 2003 Web Components, and then click Not Available.
- Click Update.
- Install the Office 2003 Web Components from the Microsoft Download Center. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Install the Office 2003 update.
Method 2: If you installed the Office 2003 Web Components from the Office 2003 CD-ROM
If you installed the Office 2003 Web Components from the Office 2003 CD-ROM, insert your original Office 2003 program CD that you used to install Office 2003, and then click OK at the time that you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
