A non-administrative domain user account cannot enable SNA tracing in Host Integration Server 2004

SYMPTOMS

When you are a non-administrative domain user and you try to enable SNA tracing (Snatrace.exe) in Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004, you receive the following error message several times:

Access is denied.

Note The domain user account that is trying to enable SNA tracing is a member of the HIS Administrators group.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the domain user account that is trying to enable SNA tracing does not have read and write access to the registry keys that are under the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add the domain user account that must enable SNA tracing to the local Administrators group.
