MORE INFORMATION

By default, Windows Firewall is turned on in Windows XP SP2. Before you can use the Remote Desktop Sharing feature of Windows NetMeeting when Windows Firewall is turned on, you have to add an entry for Windows NetMeeting and an entry for the Mnmsrvc.exe file to the Programs and Services list on the Exceptions tab of Windows Firewall. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Use one of the following methods to add an entry for Windows NetMeeting, depending on your situation:
    • When you start Windows NetMeeting for the first time after you upgrade your computer to Windows XP SP2, click Unblock in the Windows Security Alert dialog box that appears.
    • To manually add Windows NetMeeting to the Programs and Services list, follow these steps:
      1. Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
      2. Click the Exceptions tab.
      3. Click Add Program, and then click Browse.
      4. In the Browse dialog box, locate the Drive:\Program Files\NetMeeting folder, click conf.exe, click Open, and then click OK.
      5. Verify that conf.exe is listed in the Programs and Services list on the Exceptions tab, and verify that the conf.exe check box is selected.
      6. Click OK.
  2. Add an entry for the Mnmsrvc.exe file to the Programs and Services list on the Exceptions tab. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Click the Exceptions tab.
    3. Click Add Program, and then click Browse.
    4. In the Browse dialog box, locate the Drive:\WINDOWS\System32 folder, click mnmsrvc.exe, click Open, and then click OK.
    5. Verify that mnmsrvc.exe is listed in the Programs and Services list on the Exceptions tab, and verify that the mnmsrvc.exe check box is selected.
