SYMPTOMS

Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 may slow down when you use the Microsoft BizTalk Message Queuing Adapter (MSMQT) to send messages.

CAUSE

When an MSMQT instance terminates, the MSMQT instance does not always delete its subscription. These old subscriptions may generate unnecessary rows in the database. The unnecessary database rows may slow the system down.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hotfix information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Date Time Version Size File name
   ------------------------------------------------------------------
   04-Aug-2004 21:53 3.0.5325.0 580,608 Btsmessageagent.dll

Note Because of file dependencies, the most recent hotfix that contains these files may also contain additional files.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was corrected in BizTalk Server 2004 Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem may occur if no MSMQT activity occurs for more than a day. An instance of the MSMQT service automatically terminates when the instance is inactive for more than 24 hours. Then, when an instance of the MSMQT service is restarted, an identical subscription is created, and an additional subscription record is left in the database.
