If the DTC service is restarted many times, the service eventually does not restart in Windows Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

If the DTC service is stopped and restarted quickly many times, eventually the service will not restart. The following event may be posted to the Application log: Event 4185 MS DTC Transaction Manager start failed. LogInit returned error 0xc000101d.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by an error in the log file manager that causes the transaction log file to fill with checkpoint data.

RESOLUTION

Rollup information

The hotfix is included in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Therefore, to resolve this issue, install Windows Server 2003 SP1. For more information, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix. You must restart the DTC service after you apply this hotfix.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
