Microsoft has released the Outlook 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package for Microsoft Outlook 2002. This article describes the following items about the hotfix package:

INTRODUCTION
This article describes the Microsoft Outlook 2002 issue that is fixed in the Outlook 2002 post-Service Pack 3 (SP3) hotfix package that is dated August 5, 2004.

Issues that are fixed by the hotfix package
The following issue that is described in this hotfix package was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
- When you open an e-mail message in Outlook 2002, the next message or the previous message is also downloaded. If you have a slow network connection, this issue can cause problems to occur in Outlook if the next message or the previous message contains a large attachment. If there is a large attachment, you must wait for the download to finish before you can continue to use Outlook.
This issue occurs because Outlook tries to cache the next message or the previous message if the After moving or deleting an open item setting is set to either open the previous item, or to open the next item.
Note To view the After moving or deleting an open item setting, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click E-mail Options on the Preferences tab.

Prerequisites
- The optimized version of this hotfix is a post-Office XP SP3 hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office XP SP3 installed.

- The optimized version of this hotfix requires Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 or a later version.

- The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix by using the Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). However, Microsoft has not tested this fix on Office XP SP2 to the same extent as on Office XP SP3. If you install this hotfix on a computer with Office XP SP2 installed, some file conflicts might occur. Microsoft supports this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.
