INTRODUCTION
This article describes possible image display issues that you may experience you view Microsoft PowerPoint 97 slides in Microsoft Office Live Meeting. This article also describes how to resolve those issues.

Cannot read bitmap objects in a presentation when you export a PowerPoint 97 presentation to Live Meeting
If you have a PowerPoint 97 slide that has more than 256 colors, PowerPoint 97 maps the slide to a color palette. Therefore, you may experience poor resolution, fuzzy images, or unreadable text. To avoid this issue, reduce the colors in the image to a 256-color bitmap before you export or upload the slide set. To do this, use a paint program such as Adobe Photoshop or PaintShop Pro to convert the image to a 256-color bitmap. If the image has many colors, such as a JPEG image, gradient-filled shapes, or Word Art, you can filter the image before you insert the image into the slide. If a slide contains many images, you can combine the images in one bitmap image to make sure that the image has 256 colors or less.
Note PowerPoint 97 displays exported bitmap objects better than exported .gif files or Personal Web Page (PWP) files. The PWP file type is the Live Meeting slide upload format that you can upload to a server that is running Live Meeting. This problem does not occur in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2000. Therefore, you may want to upgrade to PowerPoint 2000 if you experience these image display problems frequently.
If you cannot read the image or if the image is fuzzy because of low-quality image scaling, you can resize the image in a paint program such as Adobe Photoshop or PaintShop Pro and then paste the image in the presentation. If you still cannot read the image or the image is still fuzzy, reduce the color.
To do this, follow these steps:
- In your image-editing program, resize the image to the pixel size that you want it to be displayed in the 704 x 528 pixel Conference Center slide.
- If you view the PowerPoint 97 slide editor with the default 10 x 7.5 inch page size in PowerPoint 97, you must use your paint program to resize the image to 73 percent of the size that you want it to cover in PowerPoint 97. We recommend that you change the image to millions of colors, resize it, and then change the image back to 256 colors. If you set the page size to 7.33 x 5.5 inches, you only have to insert the image at its regular size.
- Paste the image to the presentation.
- Use the Format Picture feature in PowerPoint 97 to resize the picture to 136 percent of the original size that it was when it was inserted. When PowerPoint 97 resizes a slide that is exported, the same size of image is displayed as the size of image that was produced by scaling it in the paint program.
Note You can display a .gif image or a .jpeg image as a Web slide. A Web slide supports any size image without rescaling or color remapping. However, unlike a PowerPoint 97 image slide, you cannot add annotations to a Web slide.
PowerPoint 97 slides do not fit correctly in the Conference Center display area
When you upload a slide set for use with Live Meeting 4.x, the slides are scaled to fit in the Conference Center's 704 X 528 pixel slide display area. When you create slides, you can use the PowerPoint 97 default page size setting and view the slides at a 73 percent zoom to see how the slides appear in Live Meeting. Additionally, you can set the PowerPoint 97 page size to 7.33 X 5.5 inches and the zoom to 100 percent.
Note When you change the page size of a presentation, you may change the font size and the pen size in the presentation.

Graphic object or clipart is missing or is exported to the wrong position in the PowerPoint 97 slide
If you find that a graphic object or clipart is missing or is exported to the wrong position in the PowerPoint 97 slide, you can use the Ungroup feature in PowerPoint 97 to resolve this issue. To do this in PowerPoint 97, click Ungroup on the Draw menu. When you are prompted to convert the graphic object to a Microsoft Office drawing object, click OK.
Alternatively, you can use the SnapShot feature or the LiveDemo feature in PlaceWare to display stand-alone bitmap images. To do this, display the bitmap image on your desktop, and then create a slide of the image. Additionally, you can put a .gif image or a .jpeg image on a Web server and show it as a Web slide.
