SYMPTOMS

When you use the NTBackup utility in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 to run a Unicode backup script file (.bks) that the NTBackup utility did not create, the .bks file may not run successfully.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the scripting engine adds a Unicode header (0xFFFE) to the start of the Unicode .bks file. The NTBackup utility cannot parse Unicode .bks files that include this Unicode header.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Windows 2003 Service Pack 1.
