SYMPTOMS

When you open the Scheduled Tasks folder on your Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, this folder may contain items that cannot be identified. Specifically, these Scheduled Tasks folder items have no names, and the icons for these items represent unknown file types.

Additionally, when you try to view the properties of the Scheduled Tasks folder, the Explorer.exe process may crash and the following events may be logged in the Application log:

Event 1 Event Type: Error
Event Source: Winlogon
Event ID: 1002
Description: The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

Event 2 Event Type: Information
Event Source: DrWatson
Event ID: 4097
Description: The application, explorer.exe, generated an application error.
The error occurred on Date @ Time.
The exception generated was c0000005 at address 6AC236A9 (I_NetScheduleJobGetInfo)


CAUSE

This problem occurs in the following scenario:

  1. The update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article is installed on the Windows 2000-based computer:

    817534 At.exe command does not run in every instance where it is scheduled in Task Scheduler

  2. A user account with administrator permissions logs on to the computer and creates one or more scheduled tasks.
  3. A different user account that does not have administrator permissions logs on to the computer and views the Scheduled Tasks folder.

Note To view the Scheduled Tasks folder, click Start, click Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks.

RESOLUTION

Prerequisites

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and the update that is described in Knowledge Base article 817534 are required to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You must restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

Note If the Task Scheduler service is not running, you do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
