SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft SharePoint Administrator, the SharePoint Web page may not be displayed in your Web browser as expected. This issue occurs if one of the following conditions is true:

• You start Microsoft SharePoint Administrator on a computer that is running FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft or SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft.
• You right-click a Web site in the Internet Information Services snap-in, point to Tasks, and then click Configure Server Extensions 2002.

In this scenario, you are prompted with the question of whether you want to open or save the Fpadmdll.dll file. For example, a File Download dialog box is displayed on the screen, and you receive a message that is similar to the one of the following:

Some files can harm your computer. If the file information below looks suspicious, or you do not fully trust the source, do not open or save the file.

File name: fpadmdll.dll
File type: Application Extension
From: ComputerName

Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer?

You have chosen to download a file from this location:

fpadmdll.dll from ComputerName

Do you want to open it or save it to a disk?

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the Execute permissions of the SharePoint Administration Web site in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) are configured to use a setting other than the Scripts and Executables setting. For example, this issue may occur if the Execute permissions of the SharePoint Administration Web site are configured to use the Scripts only setting or the None setting.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure the Execute permissions of the SharePoint Administration Web site to use the Scripts and Executables setting. To do this:

1. Start the Internet Information Services snap-in.
2. Right-click Microsoft SharePoint Administration, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Home Directory tab.
4. Under Execute Permissions, click Scripts and Executables, and then click OK.

The Execute permissions settings in IIS are described as follows:

• If you use the Scripts and Executables setting, users can run scripts and executable files on the virtual server.
• If you use the Scripts only setting, users can run only scripts on the virtual server.
• If you use the None setting, users can access only static files such as HTML files and image files.
