SharePoint Portal Server 2003 incorrectly displays values for certain properties of HTML documents that are returned in the search results

Article ID: 867804

Article Last Modified on 8/1/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you search for content on the portal site in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, and you click Item Details to view the details of an HTML document that is returned in the search results, you may find that SharePoint Portal Server 2003 incorrectly displays values for certain properties of the document. For example, SharePoint Portal Server 2003 incorrectly displays values for the Owner property and for the Status property.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the HTML document uses Unicode Transmission Format-8 (UTF-8) encoding. In this situation, the Search HTML Filter (Nlhtml.dll) that SharePoint Portal Server 2003 uses to filter the document properties of HTML documents does not emit embedded XML string properties as Unicode. Instead, the Search HTML Filter incorrectly emits embedded XML string properties as ANSI.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
